Your data

A booking request asks for your name, email address and phone number. They are used to handle your booking: they are emailed to reception, kept encrypted on our server until 30 days after your stay, entered into the hotel's booking system and, only to secure the booking with a card, passed to Stripe. They are not shared with anyone else, and they are used for nothing else but the thank-you email described below. To suggest the display currency, the connection's country is looked up in a local copy of the DB-IP database (db-ip.com); the address itself is not stored. Conversations with the website assistants, and what you answer to the question on the booking page, are kept without your name or address so we can improve the site; please do not type personal data into them. The site keeps its own visit statistics (pages viewed, what is clicked, time on each page, the booking steps with the dates searched and the rooms and prices shown, how long each form field was in use but never what was typed, browser, country and a shortened connection address, for up to 13 months) on our own server, with no cookies and no third party, to see where people get stuck. It also notes which parts of a page were on screen and for how long, where the mouse rested on a computer and how much text was selected, but never the text itself. If you send a booking request, the statistics of that visit are linked to it.

After your stay

The morning after you leave, we send you one email to thank you. It brings a gift for your next stay booked on our website (5% off the room, a bottle of cava or a box of chocolates in your room: you choose one) and a link to review us on Tripadvisor or Google. Everyone gets the same email, whether they write a review or not. We do this because you have been our guest (Spanish Law 34/2002, article 21.2). You can say no when you book, or at any time by writing to the address given in the email. If you ask for the gift on the page of our card, with your name and email, we look for your stay in our bookings by that name, because there is one gift per stay. If it is not written exactly as on the booking, an artificial intelligence service (Anthropic) may compare it with the closest names among the bookings of those days. Our booking system keeps your name and address encrypted to send you the email, and deletes them 15 months later at the latest, or as soon as it finds there is no stay; with your gift it keeps only a fingerprint of your address. The email itself stays in our mailbox, like every email we send. What you write to us privately after your stay goes to reception, may be translated by the same service and is never published; our booking system keeps it for up to 13 months.

Cookies and what your browser keeps

The site keeps a few small things in your browser so its pages stay as you left them. There are no analytics or advertising cookies.

• Two cookies, “vda_lang” and “vda_cur”: the language and the currency you chose, for a year.
• “vda_keep”: the booking you are preparing (the dates, the people, the rooms and the extras), so you can pick it up again in this browser. It is removed 6 hours after your last change, or when you send the request; “vda_sent_at” then keeps the time it was sent for 6 hours, so a page opened earlier cannot put the booking back.
• “vda_gift”: your gift's code, when you open it after a stay, so the booking form can apply it. It is deleted once the code is used.
• “vda_a11y”: the accessibility settings you choose, until you change them.
• “vda_es_dismiss”: that you closed the offer to read the site in Spanish, so it does not come back.
• “vdaFbOffered” and “vdaFbAnswered”: when the question on the booking page was shown to you and when you answered it, so it is not asked again within 30 days, or 90 after an answer. They stay until you clear the browser's data.
• Only while the tab is open: what you typed in the booking form, the step you were on, the request you sent from it (its reference, and the name and email it went under, so the back button shows it), which parts of the page you opened or folded, and a note for the next page when you reach it from the languages or the booking bar.

Your rights

You can exercise your rights of access, rectification and erasure by writing to hostal@hostalvalldaneu.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es).
